Nitin Sharma

Nitin Sharma is a seasoned professional with over 27 years of experience in Software and Wireless Communication, focusing on engineering, product lifecycle management, and intellectual property. At Qualcomm India, he leads various Intellectual Property initiatives, including managing Indian Patent Applications, being part of a team managing a patent portfolio centered on 5G/6G and AI/ML technologies, and conducting patent infringement analysis. He collaborates with litigation teams to develop robust strategies and provides expert inputs on legal and technical matters.
Sharma stays updated on advancements in 5G/6G and AI technologies, leveraging this knowledge to refine Qualcomm’s IP strategy. He mentors technology startups through programs like Qualcomm Design in India and Qualcomm Women Entrepreneurs in Technology, and promotes IP education through sessions for startups, Technology Transfer Offices, and engineering colleges. He also supports the L2Pro India platform, a collaborative effort providing high-quality learning on Intellectual Property topics.
In addition to his role at Qualcomm, Sharma contributes to IPR policy advocacy and innovation management. He holds leadership positions in industry associations such as ASSOCHAM, GLIPA, Licensing Executive Society India, and FICCI. His academic credentials include a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Computer Science), an LLB, an LLM, and a PGD in Patents Law from NALSAR, Hyderabad. He is also a registered Indian Patent Agent. He is Sr. Member at IEEE.
Sharma’s career spans roles at Tata Elxsi Ltd, LG Electronics, and consulting for companies like Tektronix USA, Sagem Inc. France, REI USA, and S-Telecom, Vietnam. At Qualcomm, he has led significant projects, including developing the MMS Core stack, mobile handset software, and components of the Brew MP Mobile platform. He also served as the global software lead for Qualcomm’s MPQ Chipset for Set Top Boxes and TVs.
Recognized by IAM Strategy 300 as one of the World’s Leading IP Strategists in 2023, Sharma is dedicated to advocating the importance of IP for companies, particularly for academic institutions and startups.
